We all, at some time or other criticise ourselves. Perhaps this can stem from a lack of confidence or self worth. We can, with this negative, destructive frame of mind cause a detrimental effect on almost everything we do. Our weight can be a prime candidate for self criticism. How many of us have looked in the mirror and hated what we see, criticised our bodies, excess weight and been generally disgusted to see how fat we have become and wondering why? Lack of confidence can also instill in us such negativity that we convince ourselves that no matter how hard we tried we would never succeed in losing weight.
Many of us unfortunately can relate to this form of self criticism.
For many of us having this frame of mind is often a major factor in our initial weight gain. Sadly it is also a contributory factor to us being unable to lose our excess weight.
Our self criticism also extends to a demoralisation of everything we do, or are considering doing. Often when we embark on a new diet or exercise regime, we are pestered by this negative, disruptive criticism. In the back of our mind we are still convinced we will fail, are wasting our time, we will always be fat.
In order to succeed with our weight loss, and other aspects of our lives, we need to re-programme our mind onto a more positive wave length. We need to ignore the self criticism in favour of self motivation. By re-structuring the way we think and feel about ourselves, we will instill a boost of self confidence.
Once we have more confidence, the criticism gradually subsides, and our outlook on things that were an issue in our lives do not seem as much of a problem anymore.
Most of the things we mentally criticize are all in our mind, we never look as bad to other people as we see ourselves. Yes, we may be over weight, but criticism will not change that, but we can, and we must.
Once we have established a positive, constructive and confident attitude to our body and our life, bit by bit we will be gradually able to quash the negative criticism which has haunted us. Once we have achieved this goal, the only form of criticism we want to hear is of the constructive variety.
