If you have acne you don't want overblown promises and "selling points". You want to get rid of your acne and you want something that will do that. Something that will eliminate your acne once and for all.

You aren't going to get rid of your acne overnight, but if you take it step by step you can reduce your acne and make it less noticeable. You can totally clear your skin by taking a few steps every day, cleansing, medicating and moisturizing your skin. Omitting one of the steps in your skin care regime can lead to irritated skin and could possibly cause your acne to be worse.

The number one thing in treating acne is a good cleanser. To begin to heal your skin needs to be clean and free of excess oil before you apply medication. Excess oil and sebum is the main cause of acne breakouts.

Stay away from anything that has a "scrub" or "micro-bead" in it. These exfoliating products can cause irritation to your skin and can make your acne more inflamed. The goal is to cleanse your skin to prepare it for acne medication.

Treat your skin gently, it is already inflamed and irritated so keep away from harsh chemicals that can lead to more irritation.

The next step in your acne treatment is the medication portion of your skin care strategy. Many forms of mild acne can be treated with over the counter products. You'll want to choose a product that contains a benzoyl peroxide concentration of no more than five percent. Your skin is already inflamed and irritated so you'll want to also make sure you choose a treatment that is dye and perfume free.

After treating your acne with the medication it is crucial to use a moisturizer. A lot of acne treatments tend to dry your skin which can cause even more irritation. Although the medication dries up the excess oil and bacteria that causes acne it can also cause irritation to the rest of your skin. To combat this dryness and irritation use a light moisturizer after applying your acne medication.

These steps may be enough to help eliminate your skin problems if you suffer from mild to moderate acne. Other types of acne may need to be treated by a dermatologist.

Choose a board certified dermatologist to design the best treatment for your acne and skin type. Not only can a dermatologist treat your acne but they can design a complete skin care system based on your specific needs.

Consider contacting a dermatologist for an evaluation if you have tried other treatments for your acne with limited or less than satisfactory results.
