Weight Gain With Age - Is It Inevitable?

You've probably heard it a million times - after age 30 you start losing weight and it's all downhill from there. But is that really true? More importantly, does it HAVE to be true for everyone?

It's true that our bodies change as we get older. It's also true that our metabolism slows down and hormonal changes start happening that can definitely affect how much we weigh.

But more often than not, it's our own actions that affect our weight more than any chronological changes set in stone.

For example:

- As we age, we become less active, which indeed starts to slow down our metabolism so we find it harder to keep weight off.

- The older we get, the more "set in our ways" we become, so it may seem harder to make healthy choices.

- Our very belief that weight gain is inevitable once we reach a certain age may make us complacent!

Stop right here and ask yourself, "If all of this is really true, then why are some seniors still very active, fit and healthy? Shouldn't they fall victim to the same inevitable outcome as the rest of us?"

The truth is, even if there are certain chronological changes that take place within us, our lifestyle choices are what affect the state of our bodies more than anything else.

If you want to avoid gaining weight with age, make it a point not to!

Start a fitness routine if you don't already have one. Watch what you eat. Educate yourself on the components of healthy diets and start eating that way. Speak to your doctor and see if there is anything else you can do to avoid becoming inactive and unhealthy.

Most importantly, empower yourself with the knowledge that age is just a number. It means nothing unless you decide to make it an issue.

Follow this advice, and in 20, 30, or 40 years from now, you'll be one of those healthy, fit, active, happy seniors who are loving life and living it to the fullest.
