Often, when dieting we find ourselves not progressing as much as we would like. The cause of this is usually the fact that we are doing things which have a tendency to slow down our metabolism, rather than increase it. This results in the slowing down of our weight loss, a great deal if frustration and disappointment.
Increasing our metabolism is quite easily achievable, helping us progress faster in our weight loss programme.
Eat Regularly.
One of our worse mistakes when dieting is skipping meals. By reducing our calorie intake too much we are in danger of making our metabolism slow and sluggish. Our bodies need to survive, we cannot deprive it excessively or it switches to preservation mode, therefore slowing down the fat burning to conserve energy.
By eating every 2-3 hours, our bodies will have more energy and keep on the move to increase metabolism during the processing of the food. Portion size and therefore calories can be reduced significantly when eating more frequently. Lean protein and small quantities of healthy fats have a beneficial effect as they keep the body satisfied for longer.
Green Tea
Green tea is known to contain many antioxidants beneficial to the body. It is also claimed to help burn fat by stimulating our metabolism. A refreshing drink, green tea is a pleasant alternative to coffee. Many people claim much success in their weight loss programme with the aid of green tea.
Muscle Building.
We all know that exercise in conjunction with our diet helps in the metabolic rate that we burn up.Workouts like running, aerobics and swimming are excellent but why not try a little light weight training, the more variety we have the less likely we will be to give up without fitness regime.
More calories are burned up daily, the more muscle mass we develop. Join a fitness club, or perhaps invest in some exercise DVD and be sure to take advice, particularly regarding weight training to avoid any injury.
Hydration.
Water is a vital element in metabolizing fat in our diet. Muscles and joints, as with our other organs do not function efficiently if they are dehydrated. By increasing our water intake, we will enable our body to burn to fat much quicker and more efficiently.
Not all of us find it easy to drink water in substantial quantities. Why not try pureed fruit added to a glass of water a couple of times a day. A glass of iced water with either a little lime or lemon juice is both refreshing and more palatable. Even hot water with either lime or lemon is a tasty alternative to help us add to our water intake. Not only helping our weight loss, water is a good for the skin and many other aspects of our general health and well being.
Sugar Intake Reduction
Most of us have a weakness for sugar in some form or another, be it in drinks, sweets or desserts.
Much of the sugar we take in can prevent the burning of fat, and can in fact be stored within the body in the form of fat, thus increasing the metabolic rate the body has to work to process the added work load.
In the reduction of sugar, the metabolizing of fat can be carried out quicker and much more efficiently.
Fruit sugar is a much better form than refined white sugar. With this in mind, fruit consumption is fine, although as with everything, moderation is advisable. Rich in vitamins and minerals and fibre of course, fruit is beneficial in reducing the sugar absorption and with the added plus of antioxidants.
We can all readjust our eating, drinking and lifestyle habits to achieve our goal. Dedication, willpower and time will all contribute to the process of getting slimmer and healthier. This is a long term action plan and not one to be stopped and started at will. We have to try to keep up the regime within our sometimes full and hectic lifestyles, to achieve our goal.
